Nichole Karn | Gold Leader
Five things that bring you joy?
Sunsets. The variety of colors. The massiveness. The surprise of variety every single time.
Snuggles. Hugs and warmth from my sons, husband, and nieces are my favorite. I feel like I can breathe easier with someone in my arms.
Pretty things. Bright, clean, inviting environments and items just make everything feel better.
When I'm successful in helping others. By giving them health advice, by watching their children, by helping them with daily tasks, by praying for them- if I can help someone, my heart is filled.
Giggles. My children’s giggles, rooms filled with laughter, memories of my silliest belly-laughing over what seemed like nothing. I can hear them over and over!
Tell us about your family!
My husband, Heath and I met through mutual friends here in Oregon. We had coincidentally both lived in Wyoming prior to here and turns out, lived in neighboring towns during high school. We now have a handsome and witty 14 year old son, Kyler. He has a passion for soccer and a passion for assisting kids of all abilities. He loves scaring people and making them laugh. I also have a 6 year old son, Connelly. He is super active and has the sweetest heart. Connelly is a huge sports fan! Go Ducks, 49ers, and Blazers! We also have two angel girls, Joslyn and Lilyan waiting for us in Heaven. They served big purpose and completed their jobs here on Earth before we did.
How long have you been using Young Living, and why did you get started? What rank are you now?
I have been using Young Living since September 2014 after researching for almost a year! I grabbed a kit so I could start dabbling in other oils besides the three I'd bought from a grocery store. I was pleased with Young Living's farming and bottling practices and knew they had been around for a very long time! My son benefited first as we eliminated some seasonal meds for him. Our love has grown from there and now we have an entirely revamped house as far as toiletries, cleaners, and otc meds go.
I am now Gold! My oils are stored in so many places. From kitchen, purse, bathroom, and office. I use them everywhere, so I store them everywhere.
(Kari here, to give a quick note! Nichole is one of my favorite humans and she is an incredible, loving, patient, strong person and leader. And I have to brag for her quickly. The rank of Gold comes with an average *monthly* paycheck of $6,067. She is coming up on Platinum - like I said, she's amazing. And Platinum comes with an average check of $14,710. PER. MONTH. Amazing. I love seeing my friends blessed in this way, especially because I know how much they bless others with it. You can check out more of the business & money details here.)
You are running a rockin’ business. Did you see this coming? What has surprised you the most?
I did not sign up with Young Living with any intention to do the business side. AT ALL. I didn't see this blessing coming at me at all. I'm not generally motivated on my own, but seeing how the oils help others and how we have been able to eliminate so many over-the-counter medications gets me fired up! Seeing the results and joy it brings to others draws me in more.
I have been most surprised at the community and friends I have made. I didn't expect to have so much support and encouragement. I never want to give that up, they so often carry me when I need it and I'm lucky to be able to do the same when they are in need as well.
What is something you've learned about yourself along the way?
I have learned that as much as I don't think of myself as a leader, others do. I rejoice with my team and learn with them. I can do hard things.
If you could go back and talk to your pre-oils self, what would you say?
You're overthinking it. Just trust the Earth and God and learn as you go.
What YL product could you NEVER live without? And what’s one that just makes you really stinkin’ happy?
I would not ever want to be without Thieves cleaner. It is so versatile and lasts forever. We clean everything from clothes, to toilets, to counters.
The one that makes me super happy is the Believe blend! I wear it as perfume, I diffuse it and can just rest easy with this one.
How much emphasis do you put on yourself to continue learning and growing?
I watch videos constantly, try and research to answer my own questions, and aim to read/listen to at least one business/leadership book per month. I also encourage my team members to do the same.
What have you always found to be easy within your business?
I have always found it easy to love the products, in turn, making them easy to talk about and bring up in everyday conversations with friends.
What have you found to be hard within your business?
I have found it hard to resonate with the term “leader”. I've also had challenges becoming friends and staying connected to my large team. I love people and helping people, there's just not enough of me ;)
I always want to continue learning, I need to remind myself constantly to do something new, read a new book, listen to a new podcast, just continue learning.
When you have time for yourself, what could we find you doing?
I love crafting, being outdoors (walking, exploring), vacationing, and snuggling with my boys.
What has been the highlight of your career?
The biggest highlight was the Silver Retreat. Getting to meet so many members of my team in person was the best! They're all over the country and we chat so often online, getting a real hug in person is the best!
(Note from Kari: The Silver Retreat is an all-expenses paid trip from Young Living to celebrate the accomplishment of achieving the rank of Silver! They fly us to Utah, spoil us like crazy, give us incredible training, and allow us the chance to be with hundreds or thousands of like-minded rockstars. They also send us on Retreats for the next ranks including Gold Retreat in Washington & Idaho, Platinum Retreat in Ecuador, and Diamond Retreat all over the world. Last year was in Hawaii and this year in Australia. Getting to attend a Retreat is a huge deal, and something so worth working for!)
To somebody who is just starting their wellness journey with Young Living, what advice would you give?
Research. Ask questions. Don't get overwhelmed, just start eliminating one toxic household item at a time.
To somebody who is inspired and also wants to check out the business side of Young Living, what advice would you give?
There's no harm in trying. Just do it.
First thing- learn the Compensation plan. Second, share.
